The origin of the Irish coffee is of course Ireland, but the one closest to the original can be found in San Francisco, California at the Buena Vista. In the early 50's Stanton Delaplane, Jack Koeppler and George Freeberg decided to try and imitate the drink that Delaplane had at Shannon Airport, Ireland. The Buena Vista café is situated just a few blocks of Fisherman's Warf on the corner of Beach and Hyde Street.
