The assassination of Pakistan's minister for minorities Shabbaz Bhatti is another terrible episode of violence, the Holy See Press Office said today in a statement. Shabbaz Bhatti, a Catholic, was received in private audience by the Pope at Castel Gandolfo last September. Speaking to the media at the Vatican at the time, minister Bhatti praised the peacemaking efforts and dialogue carried out by the Pope. The Holy See today renewed its call to defend freedom of religion and Christians who are subjected to persecution.
