Benedict XVI today received in private audience the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev. During the cordial talks, the parties expressed their pleasure at the good state of bilateral relations and emphasized the desire to strengthen them in the wake of establishing full diplomatic ties. The broad ranging collaboration between the Holy See and the Russian Federation was recognized, both in the promotion of specific human and Christian values, and in culture and society. The positive contribution interfaith dialogue can bring to society was also discussed. Finally, attention turned to the international situation, with particular reference to the Middle East.
