John Phillips Santos was the first Latino Rhodes Scholar, a 2009 National Book Award finalist, and recipient of the Academy of American Poets Prize at Notre Dame and the Oxford Prize for fiction (whew!) He has a gorgeous way with words, weaving together a reflection on the nature of our identity using the science of DNA, the poetry of our shared history and the power of self-determination. Stunning in its scope.
